An enthralling look at the rise and fall of the Medici, rulers of Florence for 300 years. Great patrons of the arts, thanks to their love of beauty and art, they enriched florence with palaces, statues, paintings, libraries, etc. making of florence a new athens.
The tour begins at the Medici-Riccardi palace, first seat of Medici power, with its charming frescoes by Benozzo Gozzoli. The tour continues with the church of St. Lorence, designed by Brunelleschi, father of Renaissance architecture, with emphasys on his Old Sacresty, burial place of the first important members of the Medici family. We will then visit the Chapel of the Princes, imposing baroque pantheon of the Medici Grand-Dukes, and Michelangelo’s New Sacresty, where in addition to seven statues by Michelangelo, there is the burial place of Lorenzo the Magnificent.
