For 10 years the palace was the residence of the cosimo I dei Medici, the first granduke of tuscany, Son of the the mercenary general giovanni of the black bands. Would you like to know the story of his rise to power, and the story of the medici family.

The Signoria Palace, from the beginning of the 14th century was the seat of the city’s government and its liberty but, in the middle of the 1500s it would become the residence of one single ruler: Cosimo I who, by taking up residence in the Palace, would demonstrate to all the Florentines that he was their new lord and master.

Cosimo would command his court architects to tranform the medievale seat of liberty into a residence fit for a prince, with rooms entirely frescoed with images exalting the glory and the victories of the Prince over his enemies.

A guided tour to discover the palace’s most celebrated resident, his family, his court with its intrigues and secrets, through the palace’s splendidly frescoed rooms.
