Description

Description. Enjoy a walking tour of Florence with an expert guide, visiting Florence’s most famous sites: the Duomo square with its astounding cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto’s bell tower, the incredibile dome of Brunelleschi and the Baptistery with its golden doors of paradise.

We will then go on through the Medieval district of Dante, where Dante, his allies and enemies lived and fought cheek to jowl, to reach Piazza della Signoria, an open air museum of stautes by Cellini, Gianbologna, etc., home to the original David by Michelangelo. Palazzo Vecchio, the medieval government castle became the Medici’s center of power in the 16th century, during which time it was connected by Vasari’s corridor to the Uffizi Gallery and Ponte Vecchio. Then, passing by the Bargello Palace, a medieval fortress and onetime prison, and the neighbourhoods of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo we will reach Piazza Santa Croce. Dominated by the basilica of Santa Croce, the 14th century Franciscan church and monastery houses frescoes by Giotto “the father of Italian painting” and is the final resting place of Michelangelo, Galileo and Macchiavelli, amongst others.
