Pitti
Palace. Royal Palace, seat of
three ruling dynasties, including for two hundred years the Medici who
built it. The Beauty of its' halls document the styles and tastes of
various epochs. Irs' collection of paintings is by no means second that
of the Uffizi, and its' forniture, Jewels and artifact give taste of
its' Renaissence and Baroque heyday. In fact, it contains five museums,
the most spectacular being the Silver Museum and the Palatine Gallery. |
| The
Bargello. A medieval, fortified
government centre which became a prison and now houses, amongst other
things, works by Michelangelo and Donatello, Luca della Robbia and Verrocchio. |
| Opera
del Duomo. Ex-workshop of the
Cathedral now a museum of its changing aspects. Apart from a late Pietà
by Michelangelo, the famous choir stalls of Luca della Robbia and Donatello
and the restaured originals of "The Gates of Paradise", you
will find here silver altars, rich vestments and reliqueries. |
| Medici
Chapels. Not just some of Michelangelo's
greatest sculptures. But the architecture he wished to house them. Moreover,
we have here the sumptous Chapel of the Princes entirely decorated with
semi-precious stone inlays. |
| Accademia.
The original David by Michelangelo, and much more. Here you'll find
someof Michelangelo's mature work, and an interesting painting collection. |
